Op woensdagmiddag kwam het gevreesde nieuws naar buiten: De Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix kan niet doorgaan vanwege de heftige regen. Een flinke aderlating, maar tegelijkertijd het enige logische besluit na de enorme storm die over de Italiaanse provincie trok.
Tegenover De Telegraaf laat Verstappen weten dat hij helemaal achter het besluit staat om niet te racen. “De veiligheid en hulp voor de mensen die het nodig hebben is nu het allerbelangrijkste. Het lijkt mij meer dan logisch dat we op dit soort momenten niet gaan racen.” Ook teamgenoot Pérez steekt op social media de mensen uit de getroffen regio’s in Italië een hart onder de riem.Following the heavy rain that has been affecting northern Italy, we support the decision taken by @F1 to not proceed with the Grand Prix in Imola this weekend.
